As per PSC work commitment, a well is drilled in 2019. The Kanase is one of the prospect within the block the structure is a complex horst block located approximately 13 km SE of the Kitan Field; approximately 8 km NE of the Krill discovery; 11 km ESE of the Karongo-1 discovery and 11 km NW of the Squilla discovery (all Middle Jurassic targets). Kanase was a dual target well and was drilled with the Maersk Deliverer ultra-Deepwater high efficiency dual derrick semi-submersible rig. After experiencing continued heavy losses during its drilling campaign, the total depth was called and the well was plugged and abandoned. The rig was released at on 20 June 2019.
Upon the ratification of the Treaty between Australia and Timor-Leste, a new and revised PSC, designated as PSC TL-SO-T 19-11 which superseded the previous PSC. The supersede PSC was signed by Operator with ANPM on 28 August 2019, therefore Timor-Leste now has a fully right to develop and leveraging all resource in the block for their own prosperity.
Based on the work program and commitment stipulated under the PSC, the Joint Venture (JV) continue to perform its commitment in 2020 taking into account the result of the Kanase drilling campaign, the Joint venture (JV) with the approval from the Authority, submitted the key components of the 2020 Exploration Work Program which covers comprehensive evaluation of the Kanase post-well results and studies. In addition, there was a focus on the revision the interpretation of and geological model for the Early Jurassic clastics play in the PSC Contract Area in light of the Kanase well results. These studies were planned to fully evaluate the hydrocarbon potential of the PSC.
